Lauren Miele, our past intern, has captured four global trends from her trip to Paris for MAISON&OBJET, the international home and housewares show. Lauren is a senior at the Fashion Institute of Technology, studying Home Products Development.

Trend 1: Pioneer

  Pioneer

Innovation is speeding up positive energies in all fields of design. Materials and their performance are sketching out a future in which the senses and sensuality are combined.

  • Feel the need to reconsider our lives and reconnect to material things
  • Natural materials give life to timeless, simple, luxurious objects
  • Repair what can be fixed
  • Everything recycled: Nothing Old Nothing New
  • Simplicity in new forms

Trend 2: Springtime Blossoms

 Springtime

A white background brings light to the spaced bouquets in soft pastels, while the most vivid hues of red and pink provide an optimistic lift.

  • A profusion of floral patterns brighten up collections
  • Colorful motifs, where scale varies from small, busy, allover prints to large, painterly placed flowers
  • Springtime blooms are heading in a soft and feminine direction
  • Feminine color palettes of pinks and whites
  • Soft, hand-rendered florals
  • Prints incorporate springtime elements and artistic watercolor renderings.

Trend 3: Marbleous

Marbelous

The natural markings and pattern formations of marble, agate, and stone provide a rich source of design inspiration for both textiles and wall coverings. The geologist takes us deep within the substrata on a voyage of discovery.

  • Fabrics appear like a slice of semi-precious agate; fluid and marbled patterned textile
  • Broken and textural surface patterning on textiles
  • Vivid colors and high shine combine in dramatic furnishing textiles
  • Irregular and unpolished stone provides design ideas for wallpaper
  • Organic patterns, thick and saturated color application
  • Unexpected color combinations
  • Large-scale repeats

Trend 4: Textured Shine

 Metallic

The addition of texture delivers an extra dimension to opulent velvets, silks, and metallic wall coverings. Printed sequins add depth to embellished accent pillows.

  • Broken and distressed metallic overprint
  • Textured, 3-D metallic wallpaper in high shine finishes
  • Rich metallic texture designs with a matte patterned effect
